Helping businesses grow in
Auckland South

Find out what's happening regionally:

Manufacturing

Manufacturing is a key and complex business sector.

It covers a diverse range of companies such as bio products, food processing companies, complex machinery producers, engineering companies making high precision tools or small components,  plastics companies making small components or packaging, clothing companies producing  finished garments, and others specialty fabric processing.

Within the Auckland region there are 8,153 manufacturing companies employing 76,220 people. 75% of these companies are based south of Auckland City in the Counties Manukau area.  These manufacturers have faced increasing difficulties and hurdles to overcome growth and sustainability over the last few years.

To ensure we develop better programms and services

to support this industry, we are undertaking a scoping project with manufacturing companies in order to get a better understanding of a number of components:

  • The key supply chains for services and materials
  • Understanding the ripple effects when a company moves or changes its focus
  • What the general level of resilience is
  • What true resources, ($ capital & credit requirements, labour skills, management development etc) are available for investment into the future of this key  industry
  • International market access and barriers

Manufacturers who would be willing to participate in this project and help us shape better services, please feel free to contact Bessie Nicholls, phone 09 354 0083 or email bessie.nicholls@aucklandnz.com

There are many other support organisations to assist manufacturers:

  • Employers & Manufacturers Association (EMA)
  • New Zealand Manufacturers and Exporters Association (NZMEA)
  • Plastics NZ
  • Finance Industry
  • Universities and Business Incubators
  • Government Departments
  • Business Research Associations, Public and Private
  • Heavy Engineering Research Association (HERA)
